The
O-Furo belongs to the hotel and consists of an assortment of pools and
washing places in which to relax
(not a swimming pool!) Such facilities are typical of most Ryokans and
all hotels. Entry is included in the price
but with differing degrees of luxury, - for me a relief after cycling
100 km. One must first have a 'quick scrub'
before being allowed to bathe in the pools |

A Rotenburo - relaxation-bath located outdoors with a water
temperature of about 40 degrees Centigrade |

The Kammon Bridge connects the two main islands of Kyushu and Honshu
for both cyclists and pedestrians.
The pedestrian tunnel is located underneath the road tunnel that carries
motor vehicles and entry costs 7 Euro-cents.
One descends the 60 metres below ground via a high speed elevator -
a funny feeling when one thinks that heavy freighters are steaming directly
overhead |

Kendo - the Japanese sword-fighting art is both a sport and for discipline-training
- loved by both young and old |

A stroke of luck for the photographer... a colourful kimono-procession
at the Akamaschrein (Shimonoseki) just as it was starting...
