Kusatsu - Yumomi-uta - Yohohoi-bushi a historic traditional tourist
show. Bathhouse personnel cool the hot spring water
by rhythmic stirring with a type of wooden spoon, accompanied by the
sound of a Japanese chant
By this process, the water is cooled from its original 95 degrees (i.e.
from the spring) to about 48 degrees centigrade, a more pleasant
temperature for bathing. If they simply added cold water, the healing
minerals contained in the water would be diluted... - who knows?.. |

Of course, the paying tourists can also stir and sing along... |
